On the 26th, the Kuomintang (KMT) Taipei City Committee held a disciplinary committee meeting to discuss the case involving city councilor Chen Chongwen related to the Tai Chi Guang incident, as well as the case of former KMT deputy spokesperson Lai Yiren, who was named in an accusation for damaging the KMT's reputation. The committee determined that Lai's behavior had harmed the KMT's image, while Chen was found guilty in the first instance. Both cases were recommended to the KMT Central Disciplinary Committee to take appropriate actions according to regulations.
Chen Chongwen was sentenced to nine years in prison in the first instance for pressuring the Taipei City Social Bureau to rent network services from Tai Chi Guang, which involved corruption. Lai Yiren was accused by a KMT-affiliated village head, Hsu Li-ping, of selling out KMT colleagues after the recent recall of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Wu Si-yao, during the period when he was charged with forging petition documents.
The KMT Taipei City Committee stated that regarding the Lai Yiren case, they have collected relevant evidence and notified the parties involved to provide explanations, ensuring the right of the parties to state their opinions. During the meeting, the disciplinary committee members thoroughly discussed the matter and concluded that Lai's behavior had indeed damaged the KMT's image. Due to the complexity of the case, it was decided to refer the matter for appropriate disciplinary action.
Additionally, the Taipei City Committee mentioned that Chen Chongwen's case related to the Tai Chi Guang incident had already resulted in a guilty verdict in the first instance in December last year, and the disciplinary committee recommended handling it according to the regulations for the nomination of councilors.
It is worth noting that both Lai Yiren and Chen Chongwen are seeking the KMT's nomination for the Taipei City Council seat in the Shilin North-Touren district and are also vying for re-election. If the KMT decides to impose a "suspension" disciplinary action on them, they will be unable to run under the KMT's banner.
