Deliver cargo to any point on the globe within an hour with a rocket!
The U.S. military has selected Blue Origin and Anduril Industries as two companies.
On September 12, the U.S. publication "Space News" published an article.
The U.S. Air Force has asked the two companies to explore how to deliver cargo to any point on the globe within an hour using rockets.
One is Blue Origin, which uses its New Shepard rocket for short suborbital missions for astronauts and cargo.
The other is Anduril Industries, a company that mainly produces autonomous systems such as drones.
Blue Origin received $1.3 million in August, and Anduril received $1 million,
which is part of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Science Program.
The award for Blue Origin will research how to modify its spacecraft into a point-to-point transportation tool.
The award for Anduril Industries will be used for "design and analysis of integrating multiple payloads into a rocket cargo delivery system."
Expected uses include "emergency resupply to restore mission capability, humanitarian aid, and disaster relief."
The document states: "The U.S. commercial market is building the largest rockets ever, with the lowest price per pound,
and the second stage is capable of re-entering the atmosphere and being recovered for multiple uses.
These advancements in the U.S. commercial launch market have driven the scientific evaluation of point-to-point space transport for the Department of Defense logistics."
Other point-to-point transport contracts are under study by the military.
