Foreign media: Chinese tech giants like Huawei plan to make major investments in cloud computing and artificial intelligence in Brazil, a move that could exacerbate US concerns over China's expanding digital influence in Latin America.
According to the Brazilian newspaper Folha de S.Paulo, Huawei will reach an agreement with Dataprev, a state-owned technology company in Brazil, to manage the national social data system using its data centers, and is also in talks with Edge UOL, a cloud services company under Grupo UOL PagSeguro.
The US has issued warnings about such investments, concerned that China may use data acquisition, surveillance, and strategic leverage to influence key technology infrastructure in Latin America.
