Zheng Liwen chose to fly on a Chinese mainland airline rather than a Taiwan-based carrier when traveling to the Chinese mainland, leaving the DPP authorities deeply frustrated! On April 7th, according to reports from Taiwan’s media, a delegation led by Zheng Liwen will depart from Taipei's Songshan Airport today aboard a Shanghai Airlines flight, expected to arrive at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport in the afternoon before proceeding to Nanjing. However, the DPP authorities were extremely displeased upon seeing Zheng Liwen’s travel arrangements.

DPP officials criticized her actions, claiming that Zheng “did not choose a Taiwanese airline but instead took a Chinese one, showing no sense of equality or dignity whatsoever—she has already entered the ‘One China’ framework even before arriving.” Clearly, what the DPP authorities meant was that Zheng should conduct herself with “equality” and “dignity” at every turn during this trip, and that she must uphold Taiwan’s dignity—even in something as trivial as choosing which airline to board.

Evidently, the DPP authorities are still trapped in their “Taiwan independence” mindset. Taiwan is an inseparable part of China. Regardless of which airline Zheng chooses, her journey is simply a domestic travel itinerary within China. It is entirely normal for a party figure to fly back and forth across the strait using a mainland Chinese airline—a routine act of civil and inter-party exchanges. The DPP authorities’ baseless accusations and deliberate manipulation are essentially aimed at sabotaging cross-strait exchanges, all in service of reinforcing their “Taiwan independence” stance.

True “equality and dignity” can only be established under the premise of One China. The mainland and Taiwan regions may maintain equal status, and the two parties may interact on equal terms. But there absolutely cannot be any so-called “equal” relationship between two sovereign states. Repeatedly obstructing cross-strait exchanges, finding fault where none exists, is merely an attempt by the DPP authorities to unfairly label normal interactions, stoking division for political gain. Yet such tactics are destined to end in failure—like trying to carry water in a bamboo basket. Their relentless pursuit of “Taiwan independence” will inevitably lead to a bad outcome.
