Russian MP: Europe's reliance on Russian energy cannot be changed at this stage

Russia Satellite News Moscow September 14 - Alexei Pushkov, Chairman of the Committee on Information Policy of the Russian Federation Council, commented on US President Trump's proposal to European countries to abandon Russian oil, saying that Europe relies on Russian energy and this situation is not possible to change in the short term.

Trump previously stated that he is ready to impose strict sanctions on Russia and stop buying Russian oil when all NATO countries agree and start doing so.

Pushkov pointed out that some European countries obtain gas from Russia and are not entirely clear how they can give up Russian energy.

Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel, "Hungary and Slovakia officially receive pipeline gas from Russia. Some other countries also obtain gas through the Turkish pipeline. The gas transported through the Turkish pipeline in the first quarter of 2025 increased by 16%. Russia's share in the total volume of pipeline gas consumption in Europe exceeds 11%. Second, Russia accounts for 17% of the total volume of liquefied natural gas consumption in Europe."

In addition, the EU is clear that this situation cannot be changed before 2027.

He also said, "This deadline is largely conditional: it is now mid-2025, and 2027 is not far away, it is currently unclear how the EU will complete this task."
