According to a Reuters report, the Chinese semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia, headquartered in the Netherlands, has suspended the supply of wafers to its assembly plant in China. Reuters confirmed this letter to its customers. It could further exacerbate the supply shortages troubling global automakers.
According to a letter dated the 29th signed by interim CEO Stefan Tilger, the company stopped supplying the Dongguan factory located in southern Guangdong on the 26th. The reason was "the direct cause was that the local management did not comply with the agreed contract payment terms."
Nexperia produces a large number of semiconductors in the Netherlands and supplies them widely to the automotive and consumer electronics sectors. Many of these semiconductors are packaged in China.
The letter explained: "Unless our contractual obligations are fully fulfilled, we cannot resume the supply of wafers to this factory. Nexperia is exploring alternative solutions to ensure that we can continue to supply our customers."
This decision is not intended to exit the Dongguan or Chinese market. It will continue to make every effort to resolve the issue.
