US Military: US Forces in South Korea Must Remain to Change the Mindset of the Adversary

Commander of US Forces in South Korea, Bremson, stated on May 15 at the US Army Association Pacific Ground Forces Seminar held in Hawaii that it is necessary for US ground forces to continue to be stationed in South Korea to counter challenges from competitors.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Bremson said that South Korea is the closest US ally to the biggest competitor and also acts like an "island" or "fixed aircraft carrier" between Japan and mainland China.

Bremson also mentioned that US forces in South Korea can change the mindset of adversaries and provide options for the United States in any conflict.

The Ground Operations Command of the South Korean Army announced on the 16th that South Korean and US troops conducted a joint multi-service air resupply exercise from May 9 to May 16. More than 200 soldiers from units including the Second and Fifth Armies under the Ground Operations Command, the Second Rapid Response Division, the Army Aviation Command, the Air Operations Command, the Air Mobility Reconnaissance Command, the Air Logistics Command, and the First Marine Air Wing of the US Forces in South Korea participated in the exercise.

The South Korean and US militaries dispatched 10 aircraft including C-130 transport planes, CN-235 transport planes, CH-47 transport helicopters, and KC-130J refueling transport planes for the exercise. This is the first time that the US Marine Corps' KC-130J transport aircraft has participated in the regular air resupply exercise of the Ground Operations Command.
