Media: Canada Considers Sending Troops to Greenland

The Canadian newspaper The Globe and Mail cited statements from two senior Canadian government officials, saying that in the context of U.S. President Trump's claim of sovereignty over Greenland, the Canadian government has developed a plan to send a small number of troops to the island for joint exercises with other NATO members.

Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Finland have previously announced plans to send troops to Greenland. The Danish military announced that it will work closely with NATO allies to strengthen its military presence on Greenland and increase training efforts on the island.

The Globe and Mail said: "If Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau approves the plan, a small number of Canadian soldiers could head to Greenland this week to participate in a NATO joint military exercise led by Denmark."

Sources said they are unsure when Trudeau will make such a decision, but he believes this move is inevitable.

Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, but Trump has repeatedly stated that the island should belong to the United States. The Danish and Greenlandic governments have warned Washington not to seize the island, pointing out that they expect territorial integrity to be respected.
