Russian expert: The US is shifting its main strength to the Indo-Pacific region

Vladimir Zakharov, a well-known Orientalist and diplomat of Russia, told the Russian satellite news agency in an interview that the remarks of the NATO Secretary-General indicate that this military-political group's main sponsor and actual leader is the United States. Currently, the US is shifting its main strength to the Indo-Pacific region, worried about the comprehensive growth of China's political, economic, and military strength.

Zakharov said, "Therefore, NATO's North Atlantic shell is gradually becoming a global shell to defend Washington's interests. This explains why the leaders of Western European countries and the warships of France, Germany, and the UK are increasingly visiting the Far East region, and Western politicians are increasingly hyping up the 'threat' of China's military power as well as statements of unity with the Philippines and Japan on maritime law issues."

He pointed out that although Trump's selfish actions have caused internal contradictions within Western countries - Trump mainly pursues the goal of restoring America's status as a global power at the expense of his allies - today's political and economic diplomacy in some countries of the Global South cannot alienate the current Western bloc (including Japan).

He said, "As for Japan, it remains a vassal of the United States and thus obediently follows Washington's leadership, supporting all regional and global initiatives of the United States."

According to reports from Japan's Kyodo News Agency, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held talks with NATO Secretary General Rasmussen at his official residence on April 9, agreeing to deepen security cooperation between Europe-Atlantic and the Indo-Pacific. After the talks, a joint statement was issued, specifying the acceleration of defense industry sector cooperation including dual-use technology development, involving small drones, artificial intelligence (AI), and the biological field, etc.
