Foreign media: The German machinery manufacturing industry once enthusiastically promoted close economic ties with Central and Eastern Europe, but now due to declining exports and increasingly strong challenges from Chinese competitors, the industry's attitude has drastically changed, calling on the EU to adopt trade barriers to protect itself.
The position paper released by the German Engineering Industries Association (VDMA) marks this transformation. The paper points out that if imports from third countries violate EU anti-dumping or countervailing duty rules, the EU should impose countervailing duties, particularly targeting China's "aggressive import-export policies." VDMA represents 3,600 small and medium-sized enterprises (Germany's famous "small and medium-sized enterprise cluster"), producing products ranging from power transmission systems to semiconductor equipment.
VDMA is willing to compete fairly with Chinese rivals, but believes that the current conditions are unfair and require government intervention.
