The White House is investigating a dispute between two prominent supporters of Donald Trump: Richard Grenell, former U.S. ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence, and Alina Habba Milton. According to informed sources, the inquiry centers on a bank transfer from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to a defense company in Texas. Mrs. Milton, who previously served as Trump’s private attorney, entered the Oval Office last week and accused Grenell of diverting millions of dollars from a business transaction organized in 2025 by a Turkish investor—later her husband, whom she married last month. She alleged that part of the funds was intended for donation to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts but had never been given. At the time, Grenell was overseeing the Kennedy Center. Grenell has denied all allegations, calling them baseless. The two were once close associates, but their relationship deteriorated in recent months due to business matters involving her husband. The rift became public after The New York Times began reporting on Mr. Milton’s commercial activities and his contributions to the Kennedy Center, prompting Mrs. Milton to escalate her complaint directly to Trump. Initially, Mrs. Milton told White House officials the $17.6 million originated from her husband. However, documents initially submitted by his legal team omitted the sender’s name. Subsequent disclosures revealed the funds were transferred from a bank account linked to the Congolese government. Mr. Milton has previously acknowledged serving as an advisor to the president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and holding a diplomatic passport from that country. He also owns substantial commercial assets in Venezuela and had discussed his role there with Grenell. At the time of the transfer, Grenell was serving as Trump’s special envoy on Venezuela. The recipient of the funds was TX-AT, a security and defense firm based in Texas. Grenell admitted having consulted with the company in 2024 but stated he had no connection to it at the time of the transfer and denied any involvement in the transaction.
