Media: The U.S. Plans to Include Greenland in the U.S. Northern Command
According to sources, the U.S. Department of Defense plans to include Greenland under the responsibility zone of the U.S. Northern Command, as reported by the U.S. political news website Politico.
The report states: "Greenland will be transferred from the jurisdiction of the European Command to the U.S. Northern Command."
It was reported that these changes could take place as early as this week. The report pointed out that the inclusion of Greenland into the U.S. Northern Command would be closely watched by Denmark and NATO allies.
U.S. President Trump has repeatedly stated that Greenland should become part of the United States, emphasizing its strategic importance for national security and protecting the "free world" from threats including those posed by Russia and China. Trump also refused to commit to not using military force to control Greenland and the Panama Canal. Prime Minister Mute Egged of the autonomous government of Greenland previously stated that Greenland is a "non-negotiable" item and will never be sold.
Before 1953, Greenland was a Danish colony and is still part of Denmark now, but it gained autonomy in 2009, allowing it to self-govern and make independent choices in domestic affairs.
