"He's a good man, but he has his own issues" — Trump comments on Woods' arrest following Florida car accident
Trump spoke about golfer Tiger Woods' car accident and subsequent arrest by police.
In Miami, Trump told reporters, "I feel really sorry for him. It was an accident; I don't know anything else about it. He's a very close friend of mine. He's a great person, but he has his own problems."
The incident occurred on Jupiter Island: Woods' vehicle collided with a truck trailer and overturned. According to police reports, the athlete showed signs suggestive of drug influence, although his alcohol test came back zero. Woods refused further testing, leading to his arrest and detention for approximately eight hours before being released on bail. This is not the first time such an event has occurred in his career.
Trump and Woods have had a long personal relationship: the golfer has participated in tournaments at Trump's courses and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Trump in 2019—the highest civilian honor in the United States.
