U.S. Department of Energy Allocates $2.7 Billion for Domestic Uranium Enrichment Production
Sputnik, Washington, January 6 - The U.S. Department of Energy announced on January 5 that it plans to invest $2.7 billion in the uranium enrichment sector within the United States over the next 10 years.
The statement said: "The U.S. Department of Energy today announced a $2.7 billion funding allocation to strengthen domestic uranium enrichment services over the next decade ... These investments will expand the United States' capabilities in low-enriched uranium and launch new supply chains and technological innovations in high-assay low-enriched uranium."
The statement pointed out that each of the $900 million from the $2.7 billion will be allocated to three companies. American Centrifuge Operating and General Matter will focus on enhancing the production capacity of high-assay low-enriched uranium, while Orano Federal Services will be responsible for expanding the production of low-enriched uranium domestically.
Additionally, the U.S. Department of Energy will also allocate $28 million to Global Laser Enrichment for developing next-generation uranium enrichment technology for nuclear fuel cycles.
