Korean Media: Trump on Iran's Final Peace Proposal Reply: Completely Unacceptable… Negotiations May Hit Rocks

¬ "Iran demands cessation of hostilities and gradual opening of the Strait of Hormuz," nuclear talks for 30 days… Refuses to dismantle nuclear facilities, seeks uranium enrichment restrictions shorter than "20 years"

On the 10th, according to U.S. President Donald Trump, Iran's response to America's final peace proposal was entirely unacceptable. That afternoon, Trump posted on his self-created social media platform "Truth Social": "Just read what purportedly came from Iran's 'representatives'—I'm dissatisfied, and completely unacceptable." Previously reported, the two countries were very close to signing a one-page final peace Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). According to official Iranian media reports, Iran delivered its reply via mediator country Pakistan on that day; however, with Trump's objections raised, the already fragile truce now faces the risk of collapse.

Regarding the ongoing ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran since last month, as well as whether negotiations would continue, Trump made no mention. On the 8th, Trump told reporters during a meeting at the White House: "I'll probably receive the letter tonight," yet Iranian state media IRNA reported that the reply only came through Pakistan on that same day. It is understood that the U.S. demands a 20-year suspension of uranium enrichment used for nuclear weapons, ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, among other conditions. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and localized fighting continue, and with negotiations now facing potential failure, Iran’s situation once again stands at risk.

On the same day, according to The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), in a multi-page reply document, Iran requested an end to hostilities and the phased reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It is reported that Iran stated its position clearly: if the U.S. lifts sanctions on Iranian ships and ports, Iran will gradually allow commercial vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. On the most contentious issue—the nuclear matter—Iran stated it would conduct negotiations over the next 30 days. Iran said it could dilute some highly enriched uranium and transfer the rest to a third country, but insisted on guaranteeing the right to reclaim it should negotiations fail or if the U.S. later violates the agreement. Iran rejected demands to dismantle its nuclear facilities and sought uranium enrichment restrictions shorter than the U.S. requirement of "20 years."

Additionally, on the same day, Trump posted further: "For 47 years, Iran has been playing a game of delay with the United States and the world—this time, it won't succeed." According to CNN, after receiving Iran's reply, Trump spoke by phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. In an appearance on a CBS program, Netanyahu declared that the war with Iran "has not yet ended." On the same day, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz told ABC: "We’ve given every opportunity to diplomacy before returning to hostile actions," and explicitly stated that Trump has fully prepared to resume attacks on Iran.
