According to a report by Reuters on May 7 local time, California and 15 other states sued the Trump administration today, saying that the US government illegally withheld billions of dollars in funds intended for states to build electric vehicle charging stations.

This withholding began in February this year when Trump issued an executive order instructing the US Department of Transportation to suspend the electric vehicle charging program and revoke the approval of funds for electric vehicle charging by each state.

Previously, some Democratic figures stated that Trump withheld more than $3 billion (approximately 21.71 billion RMB) of the funds for this plan.

Since taking office in January, Trump has taken multiple actions to change Biden's electric vehicle policies in order to vigorously promote the use of fossil fuels, and revoking the US Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Fund is part of this effort.

He also called for California to stop its efforts to implement zero-emission vehicle rules and cease funding for California's high-speed rail construction.

The states participating in the lawsuit said that the US government's decision "will destroy the ability of states to build charging infrastructure, which is crucial for enabling more consumers to use electric vehicles, combating climate change, and reducing other harmful pollution."
