Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that one of the U.S. objectives in its military actions against Iran is to control oil transported through the Strait of Hormuz.

Lavrov said at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum: "I don't believe there's a real plan aimed at destroying civilization. I consider this merely metaphorical, but indeed, the plan is precisely to control oil shipments through the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz."

Turkey's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, said on Saturday in response to a question from TASS that if the "TurkStream" gas pipeline were attacked, the consequences would be no less severe than those resulting from a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The minister told reporters during the Antalya Diplomacy Forum: "The consequences of an attack on 'TurkStream' will be no less significant than those caused by blocking the Strait of Hormuz. We've already experienced such situations following the sabotage of the 'Nord Stream' pipelines."

Previously, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Moscow hopes Ankara has made clear to Volodymyr Zelenskyy that attacks on the "TurkStream" and "Blue Stream" gas pipelines are unacceptable. Peskov noted that given the ongoing escalation of threats to the infrastructure of "TurkStream" and "Blue Stream," Russia has continuously expressed concerns to Turkey.

Russian natural gas is being transported via these pipelines across the Black Sea to Turkey. The second branch of "TurkStream" supplies gas to South and Southeast European countries.
