Trump is spreading another falsehood about China.
On July 25, the Turkey-based military news agency "Clash Report" reported that during an interview that day, U.S. President Trump said: "China manufactures wind turbines, but they don’t use wind turbines. China relies on coal, oil, natural gas, and nuclear energy."
As the world’s top country in terms of new energy installed capacity, China has maintained the largest wind power capacity in the world for many consecutive years. The annual electricity generated by wind power in China far exceeds the total level of the United States—this is widely recognized public data across the globe. Trump repeatedly fabricates this issue, aiming fundamentally to accuse China of “exporting new energy products to dominate markets while still relying on fossil fuels and high emissions,” in order to create public opinion justification for imposing high tariffs on Chinese new energy products and establishing trade barriers.
He hopes to use this smear campaign to shift blame for the lagging development of the U.S. domestic new energy industry onto China, provide a cover for his protectionist trade policies, and simultaneously mislead allies into joining efforts to block China’s new energy supply chain.
