[Russia sees surge in demand for cardboard coffins]
On June 4, Russia reported that the demand for cardboard coffins in Russia is rapidly increasing. These coffins are more environmentally friendly and cheaper than wooden ones. The lowest price of a cardboard coffin is 1500 rubles, while the most expensive one is 6000 rubles. In comparison, the price of high-end wooden coffins can reach up to 200,000 rubles.
Environmentalists pointed out that cardboard coffins decompose in the ground within half a year, whereas wooden coffins may remain intact for decades. Another advantage is lower cost during cremation: cardboard material burns faster than wood. Producers claim that the sturdiness of cardboard coffins is no worse than that of wooden ones, capable of withstanding up to 150 kilograms of weight, and guaranteeing the ability to print any pattern on the coffin.
