Media: NATO military does not believe drones will completely replace tanks on the battlefield

According to a senior officer from a European country cited by the Financial Times, NATO forces do not believe drones will fully replace tanks on the battlefield, and preparations must be made for their combined use.

Several NATO generals told the Financial Times that due to declining equipment survivability caused by large-scale drone usage, NATO's operational doctrine needs to be updated.

The senior officer told the publication: "The logic of future weapon requirements is not about choosing between tanks and drones—both will be needed. What we are discussing here is the capability for combined operations."

The report quoted officials as saying that although European countries recognize the need to take on greater defense responsibilities and reduce dependence on the United States, they have not done enough in this regard so far.

Previously, the Neue Zürcher Zeitung (NZZ) reported that due to the rapid advancement of AI-powered drones used in the Ukraine conflict, NATO countries have already fallen significantly behind in military technological equipment.
