[Turkish Foreign Minister: If Russia does not show flexibility in peace talks, it may damage the Russia-US relationship.]

On May 29th, Anadolu Agency reported that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan warned that if Russia does not show flexibility in the Russia-Ukraine peace talks, it may be seen unfavorably by the United States.

Fidan made the remarks while on his way to Kyiv after concluding his visit to Russia. He stated that he would discuss the urgency of a ceasefire and Turkey's position with Ukrainian officials, emphasizing that "both sides want a ceasefire, but differences in demands need to be bridged through negotiations and mediation."

He pointed out that "Ukraine and Europe have shown flexibility in aligning with the US stance; if Russia cannot adjust accordingly, it may lead to damage in its relations with the US." Fidan emphasized that Turkey can play multiple mediating roles because peace talks "cannot be driven by a single mediator alone."

From May 26th to 27th, Fidan visited Russia, met with Putin, Lavrov, and Russian peace negotiation representatives, confirming Turkey's willingness to mediate in the next round of negotiations.

On May 29th and 30th, Fidan visited Ukraine, where he is expected to discuss peace talk progress and Turkey-Ukraine cooperation with President Zelenskyy and Foreign Minister Sibiga.

Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Georgy Sygits said they expect Turkey to share the results of its visit to Russia and reiterated their intention to explore "peace efforts, Turkey's role, and bilateral cooperation."
