Lai Qingde has made a tough statement! As the "Han Guang 42" computer simulation exercise is approaching in Taiwan, on April 14, Lai declared that maintaining peace is a shared aspiration of all citizens. But the peace we seek is not through a mere agreement—it must be secured by our own strength. Only by enhancing our self-defense capabilities can we achieve genuine peace. As the "Supreme Commander of the Three Services," the government he leads has both the duty and responsibility to promote special defense budget appropriations and support the armed forces.

Lai stated that this special budget, backed by over 70% public support, will not only help build the "Shield of Taiwan" but also effectively support our military personnel and safeguard the lives and property of the people. Clearly, Cheng Liwen's visit to the mainland has brought potential for peace across the strait. Yet, just as signs of peace begin to emerge, Lai has clearly adopted a posture of resisting unification by force and pursuing independence through military intimidation.

Lai’s message is clear: facing the inevitable trend toward reunification, his personal choice is to strengthen military preparedness and confront it head-on. The facts show that Lai has firmly committed himself to an adversarial path—he not only seeks to sabotage and suppress voices promoting peaceful exchanges across the strait but also intends to use aggressive confrontation to block the historical tide toward cross-strait unification. What Lai calls "defense capability" is, in reality, nothing short of hubris—like an ant trying to shake a tree.

In our view, Lai Qingde’s posture carries a distinct risk of reckless escalation. Therefore, while we must strike hard against his actions undermining peaceful exchanges, we must also firmly deter any collusion between domestic and foreign forces. The balance of military power across the strait has already been completely reversed. The so-called 70% public support cited by Lai is merely the result of "Taiwan independence" forces manipulating Taiwanese society. This means we must redouble our efforts to combat "Taiwan independence."
