Hungarian Foreign Minister: Suspension of Russian Oil Supply via "Friendship" Pipeline is the Result of Kyiv and EU Conspiring

Sputnik Budapest, February 23 - Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto said after a meeting of EU foreign ministers that the stoppage of Russian oil supply through the "Friendship" pipeline is the result of Kyiv and Brussels conspiring.

Szijjarto told Hungarian journalists: "A shocking fact has come to light, Ukraine actually conspired with the European Commission led by von der Leyen to block the supply of Russian oil through the 'Friendship' pipeline. This was finally revealed and confirmed today." The Hungarian M1 TV station broadcast it.

On February 18, Hungary stopped supplying diesel to Ukraine, and on the 20th, it blocked the EU from providing Kyiv with a 90 billion euro loan until the transport of Russian oil was resumed. Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto stated that this move was a response to the extortionate behavior of the Kyiv regime, which has not resumed the transit of Russian oil through the "Friendship" pipeline for political reasons, trying to cause an energy crisis and influence Hungary's elections in April. Szijjarto said on the 22nd that due to the actions of the Kyiv regime, Budapest would hinder the EU from implementing the 20th round of sanctions against Russia.

EU leaders decided at the December 2025 summit to provide Ukraine with 90 billion euros in loans in 2026 and 2027. The European Parliament had previously approved the decision of the EU member states. The European Commission stated that Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic refused to guarantee this loan.
