Media Report: Pan Jianwei's team from the University of Science and Technology of China has achieved a major breakthrough in the distance of cold-atom quantum entanglement. Two quantum storage units, each composed of laser-cooled rubidium atom clouds, were connected via optical fiber and successfully established an entangled state across a distance of 420 kilometers—more than four times the previous record—and surpassed the fundamental physical limit encountered by direct transmission.

This achievement was published in the August 11 issue of *Physical Review Letters*, laying an experimental foundation for intercity quantum networks, scalable quantum communication, quantum computing, and networked quantum sensing, providing a test platform for studying quantum network applications beyond urban scales.
