Japanese police arrest Taiwanese man who defrauded 200 million yen in gold
February 19, Asahi Shimbun reported: On the 19th, the Higashiosaka Police Station announced the arrest and prosecution of suspect Wen Jiaxian (translated name, 21 years old), who is suspected of fraud and other charges, defrauding about 200 million yen (about 90 million Chinese yuan) worth of gold and platinum.
According to the police, the suspect speaks almost no Japanese and is believed to have played the role of a "hired hand" who was specifically sent to Japan to obtain stolen goods.
The suspect entered Japan on a short-term visa, and was detained when he tried to leave from Narita Airport in November last year.
The gang members impersonated police officers and defrauded six victims aged over 60 to 70 in October last year, deceiving them by saying that "they must confirm their assets to prove they had no illegal activities to clear their names," and stole about 10 kilograms of gold and platinum (equivalent to a market value of about 209 million yen).
It is said that the police identified the suspect through surveillance when he came to collect the stolen goods.
