America Starts to Worry: Nvidia Expresses Concerns to US Lawmakers About China's Rising AI Strength

According to sources from a senior committee of the U.S. Congress, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently expressed concerns about the growing strength of Chinese enterprises in the artificial intelligence field during a closed-door meeting with U.S. lawmakers.

Reuters reported that this meeting was a closed discussion held between the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs and Nvidia executives. The discussions included Chinese enterprises' development of AI chips, as well as how U.S. restrictions on Nvidia exporting chips to China might enhance the market competitiveness of Chinese enterprise chips.

The senior staff member pointed out, "If the DeepSeek R1 [an advanced large language model developed in China] is trained on Chinese enterprise chips or if a future open-source Chinese AI model is optimized to run efficiently on Chinese enterprise chips, it could potentially generate widespread demand for Chinese enterprise chips globally."

Reuters noted that this exchange highlights the increasing concern among U.S. tech giants about the geopolitical risks brought by China's rapid progress in AI technology, especially against the backdrop of continuously strengthening export controls.

Separately, according to a report by Bloomberg on Wednesday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he hopes the Trump administration will revise existing regulations on AI technology exports so that companies can better seize future development opportunities.

The "Framework for Artificial Intelligence Diffusion," set to take effect on May 15, aims to restrict the export of the most powerful AI chips produced by companies like Nvidia, ensuring that cutting-edge computing capabilities remain in the hands of the United States and its close allies.

According to CNBC, Huang also expressed confidence earlier in another interview, stating that Nvidia has the ability to complete chip manufacturing domestically using resources within the United States.
