Game Science's New Title "Black Myth: Zhong Kui" Official Website Launched: Journey to the West Won't End Here
On August 20th, Game Science officially announced its latest work, "Black Myth: Zhong Kui," through a CG trailer on its official website. According to the introduction, this work is still a standard single-player action RPG, with a business model identical to its predecessor. Game Science said, "We've just set up the folder, and there's not much in terms of gameplay yet." "To all the fans of 'Black Myth: Wukong,' we want to say: The Journey to the West won't end here."
The founder and CEO of Game Science, and the producer of "Black Myth: Wukong," Feng Ji, published a long article at midnight explaining why he made the new game. The original text is as follows:
"After the release of 'Black Myth: Wukong,' I was in a haze for quite a while.
An ambition that I had been dreaming about for nearly twenty years finally came true. However, the result exceeded my initial expectations by a large margin.
According to the rules, I should have been rolling on the ground, humming happily every day.
Unfortunately, the fundamental assumptions of human beings are not like that; strong positive emotions seem to last only a short time, and happiness always disappears in an instant.
At that time, what really couldn't leave my mind was confusion, emptiness, and fear (I know it sounds sentimental, don't shoot me). No matter how ashamed I felt about not being able to be happy, these emotions still came uncontrollably and overwhelmingly — especially when submerged in questions like 'Will there be a DLC? Who has it? When will it be released?'
As a professional adult, I am also good at hiding these negative feelings, convincing myself to get back on track and start working on the DLC seriously.
Because I clearly know that the friends who are urging for the DLC are undoubtedly fans of Black Monkey, lovers of Game Science, and those who have carried us up the mountain all along.
So, during the first half year after the release, I determined some directions, wrote some settings, held some meetings, and the team started running according to the plan of "first making the DLC."
This continued until one day this year, Yang Qi left me a message in the morning saying, "I have something important to ask you."
That day, I happened to be away from the company during the day, so I arranged to talk in the evening.
When I came back, the first thing I asked him was, "Are you not interested in making the DLC, and want to make a new one?"
To my relief, he was calm, happy, and it was natural for us to reach an agreement immediately.
Then, we started persuading other colleagues gradually.
After that, we got the "Black Myth: Zhong Kui" that you see today.
Of course, the DLC is not a bad choice, but at this moment, we would rather make a new Black Myth title first —
New heroes, new gameplay, new visuals, new technology, and new stories.
Let our hands go, take bold initiatives, not bound by convention, starting from scratch.
Maybe many people think that DLC is stable, safe, clear, and faster.
But what I saw in many second creations is already more free-spirited than our previous DLC ideas.
Like everyone else, I deeply love the world of demons, gods, and Buddhas in the Journey to the West, so the legend of Wukong will return in a more complete and solid way, properly prepared, and then officially come back.
In the book "Mr. Iwata," the former president of Nintendo said, "There is no future on the existing extension line."
Only with the unknown can there be surprises; only with challenges can there be fun.
Game Science will continue to deliver each new answer seriously, carrying the love and wishes of everyone.
