Experts: Once sanctions are lifted, Venezuela's oil production could increase to 2 million barrels per day

Sputnik, Caracas, February 3 - Wilmer Rodríguez, vice president of the Venezuelan Podemos party and former member of the National Assembly's Energy and Petroleum Committee, told Sputnik that Venezuela could increase its oil production to about 2 million barrels per day by the end of the year if unilateral sanctions were lifted.

Rodrígues said: "If the unilateral coercive measures against us are lifted this year, oil production can reach approximately 2 million barrels per day by the end of the year."

According to him, Venezuela's oil reserves can certainly be called the "axis of world energy", and it is important to obtain financing sources, unfreeze accounts and return funds to Venezuela.

US President Trump said that Washington would gain billions or trillions of dollars from selling Venezuelan oil. Trump did not disclose how long the US would control Venezuela, but said "longer than a year".

On January 3, the United States carried out a large-scale military operation in Venezuela, and the country's president Maduro and his wife Flores were taken to New York.

According to the US government, they are suspected of involvement in "drug terrorism" activities, which pose a threat to countries including the United States. The first trial has already been held in New York, and the Maduro couple have both pleaded not guilty to the charges.
