Foreign Media: Chinese scientists have discovered a new rare earth deposit in Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces, which may rewrite the domestic "southern-rich, northern-poor" distribution pattern of rare earth resources.

Differing from the clay-type deposits in the south that require chemical leaching, the northern deposits are composed of loose gravel formed by freeze-thaw processes, enabling more efficient mining, lower costs, and greater environmental friendliness.

China currently handles nearly 90% of global rare earth processing. This discovery comes at a time when Western countries are eager to build alternative supply chains, potentially further consolidating China's dominant position worldwide.

The finding was published by a team from the Institute of Geology and Geophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the Heilongjiang Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources in the journal *Acta Petrologica Sinica*.
