According to a report by Politico, a suspect related to the case of US Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's stolen wallet was arrested on April 26 local time.
On April 20 local time, Noem had her wallet stolen while dining at a restaurant in Washington D.C. The wallet contained approximately $3000 in cash, her keys, driver's license, passport, and a Department of Homeland Security badge. The Department of Homeland Security stated that Noem kept cash in her wallet to pay for gifts, dinners, and other activities during Easter for her family.
According to Matt McCool, head of the Washington Field Office of the Secret Service, after an investigation by the Secret Service and the Metropolitan Police Department, a suspect was arrested in Washington on April 26 local time.
Ed Martin, Acting US Attorney for the District of Columbia, said that the suspect illegally entered the United States, "there is no evidence that the motive for theft was due to Noem's position. Frankly speaking, it was just because that wallet looked very nice."

The Metropolitan Police Department stated that through video evidence, the suspect was linked to two other wallet theft cases at restaurants in Washington earlier this month. The suspect has been charged with robbery in connection with these other cases.
The Secret Service is investigating the case of Noem's stolen wallet and will release the investigation results in federal court. As of April 27 local time, there are no signs that criminal charges have been filed against the suspect.
Noem thanked law enforcement agencies for "finding and arresting the criminal who stole my bag when I was having dinner with my family during Easter." In a statement, she said, "This person is a professional criminal and has been illegally staying in our country for many years."
Martin also stated that they are pursuing another suspect.
