Foreign media: A Chinese research team has developed the world's first bamboo fiber fixed-wing drone, with wings made of bamboo-based composite materials. Compared to carbon fiber materials, it is 20% lighter, and the material cost is only a quarter of that of carbon fiber cloth, reducing the overall structural cost by more than 20%.
The drone completed its maiden flight last month in North China, jointly developed by the International Bamboo and Rattan Center, the Ningbo Innovation Research Institute of Beihang University, and Longzhu Technology Group.
The research team pointed out that bamboo-based composite materials need to meet stringent mechanical performance requirements while overcoming technical challenges such as forming processes and environmental adaptability. This technology can also be applied to new energy vehicles, marine equipment, satellites, and spacecraft, providing a sustainable, lightweight, and low-cost alternative for the drone industry.
