Japanese Media: China's Exports Grow for the Tenth Consecutive Month in August

According to a report by Japanese media outlet Sankei Shimbun on September 8, China's trade data for August (measured in U.S. dollars) showed exports reaching $401.4 billion (approximately 6 trillion yen), up 25.0% year-on-year. The growth rate increased further from July's 23.9%, marking the tenth consecutive month of positive growth. China's export expansion has been driven by strong global investment in artificial intelligence (AI), with exports in high-tech industries such as semiconductors showing significant gains.

Imports rose by 28.2%, a notable increase from July's 27.5%. The trade surplus (exports minus imports) reached $119 billion, higher than $112.5 billion in July.

By country and region, exports to Japan grew by approximately 8%, while imports from Japan increased by about 20%.

Following former Japanese Minister Sanae Hasegawa’s parliamentary response in November last year regarding the "Taiwan contingency," Sino-Japanese relations cooled rapidly; however, overall import and export trends have not shown a significant decline.

China's exports to the United States rose by around 34%, while imports from the U.S. increased by approximately 18%. A summit meeting between China and the United States is scheduled later this month.

From January to August, total exports rose 19.3% year-on-year, while imports grew by 27.0%. A trade surplus of $80.55 billion was achieved during this period.
