Fujian is only 60% as powerful as the Nimitz, and just after American pilots came to this conclusion, the Nimitz had an incident!
Recently, CNN had a program where they invited former Captain Carl Schuster and Keith Stewart, who were both U.S. Navy captains and carrier-based aircraft pilots, to evaluate the combat capability of the Fujian. After carefully analyzing photos of the Fujian's flight deck, these two pointed out that the angle between the landing area and the centerline of the carrier deck is only 6 degrees, while the angled deck of the Nimitz-class carriers reaches 9 degrees.
They said that this 3-degree difference leads to a significant difference in the efficiency of carrier operations. The landing area on the Fujian has to be built longer than that of the Nimitz class, bringing this area close to the catapult area near the bow. This means that the path of the aircraft after landing will interfere with the takeoff of the number 1 and 2 catapults.
Schuster explained that these two catapults cannot simultaneously launch carrier-based aircraft, and a small angle restricts takeoff and landing. According to Schuster's assessment, the operational effectiveness of the Fujian may be limited to around 60% of that of the Nimitz-class carriers.
Keith Stewart said that the limitations of deck operation efficiency will have multiple levels of impact. In a combat environment, this could mean that it is impossible to deploy sufficient air power at critical moments, prolonging mission preparation time, and reducing the response speed to sudden threats. In other words, even if the Fujian uses electromagnetic catapults, it still won't help.
Unbelievably, before they finished speaking, news came that a carrier-based aircraft from the Nimitz crashed into the sea. Although the cause of the crash is not yet known, it is a world record for two aircraft crashing within a short period. To be honest, the Ford has not even conducted F-35C electromagnetic catapult tests so far. How can the U.S. dare to mock the Fujian for being 50 years behind the Nimitz?
It's better not to mock, but once you mock, you directly laugh the Nimitz's two carrier-based aircraft into the sea. Hehe, one should keep some moral standards in life.
