[Zelenskyy Responds to Putin's Ceasefire Proposal: "We Value Human Lives, Not Parades"]

On April 28th, Zelenskyy stated that there was no reason to delay the ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia until May 8th just for Putin to have peace during the Victory Day parade. Instead, a full-scale ceasefire should happen immediately.

Zelenskyy reminded that on that day, Russia used "Katyusha" drones to attack civilian infrastructure in the Cherkasy region. This occurred against the backdrop of calls for Russia to end the war and start a ceasefire. "This means that every day further proves the need to pressure Russia, and to pressure them meaningfully, so they are forced to end this war in Moscow — a war that only Russia needs."

He pointed out that Ukraine remains prepared to cooperate with all partners who can help achieve peace and ensure security to the maximum extent possible. On March 11th, Ukraine had already agreed to America's comprehensive ceasefire proposal. Additionally, Kyiv proposed halting attacks on civilian targets or extending the "ceasefire" over the Easter period by at least 30 days. However, Russia rejected these proposals and is now attempting to deceive the United States.

Zelenskyy stated, "This is another attempt at manipulation: somehow everyone must wait until May 8th before a ceasefire. Just to create a peaceful atmosphere for Putin during the parade. We value human lives, not parades. That's why we believe there is no reason to wait until May 8th. And the ceasefire should not just last for a few days before the killing resumes." He said that only a full and unconditional ceasefire of at least 30 days could lay the groundwork for genuine diplomatic negotiations. "Russia knows what to do and how to respond — a real ceasefire is feasible. We believe that international pressure, including pressure from the U.S., can prompt Russia to give us the response we need."

On April 28th, Putin announced a ceasefire from May 8th to 10th. He hoped to halt all military operations during this period.

White House Press Secretary Lett said that President Trump hopes to achieve lasting peace, not just a ceasefire for a few days.
