Beijing: On the 3rd, Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party of North Korea, had a brief encounter with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar during his visit to Beijing, China. Due to the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, Kim Jong-un's half-brother, at Kuala Lumpur International Airport in 2017, North Korea and Malaysia severed diplomatic relations for 21 years, but both sides seem to have responded without losing respect.

Kim Jong-un and Anwar both attended the 80th anniversary commemoration of the victory in the War of Resistance. According to Anwar, he "accidentally met Kim Jong-un." During the commemorative event, Kim Jong-un also shook hands with the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, whom he considers an enemy country.

This is Kim Jong-un's first participation in an international event that brings together multiple heads of state.
