Foreign media: Chinese scientists have developed a new analog AI chip, whose performance is significantly better than traditional digital chips.
According to a paper published in the journal "Nature Communications," the chip developed by the Peking University team is 12 times faster than advanced digital processors when handling practical tasks such as personalized recommendations and image processing, with energy consumption only 1/200 of the latter. In the training of recommendation systems on data set scales similar to Netflix and Yahoo, the chip performed excellently. In image compression tests, it can reconstruct images with almost the same visual quality while halving the storage requirements.
This achievement marks a major breakthrough in analog computing for handling complex tasks and has the potential to change the reliance of artificial intelligence systems on high-energy digital processors.
