According to multiple media reports, the joint proposal by the UK and France aims to use civilian vessels as launch platforms to deploy autonomous underwater mine-hunting drones, designed to locate and destroy mines allegedly laid by Iran (estimated at around 12 by U.S. intelligence).

In addition, the UK Ministry of Defence is considering modifying Bay-class landing ships for mine-clearance operations. The report notes that implementing this plan would require direct support from the United States.
