The vast majority of senators agreed with the Supreme Court's decision to dismiss the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte!

This consensus was reached during a closed-door meeting earlier this week, said Senate President Pro Tempore Estrada on Thursday night, adding that 19 to 20 out of 24 senators supported maintaining this ruling because it violated the constitutional one-year ban on filing multiple impeachment charges.

Estrada said, "The Senate will not convene as an impeachment court because we no longer have jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court has already made its ruling."

"We are the ones who make laws, but we don't abide by the law? It's embarrassing. If legislators don't follow the Supreme Court, how can we expect ordinary citizens to do so?"

Estrada warned that ignoring this ruling could trigger a constitutional crisis, undermine the rule of law, and erode public trust in the democratic system.

Former Senate President Zubiri stated that although he acknowledged the views of his colleagues who pushed for the Senate resolution to reconsider this decision, he firmly believed that the Supreme Court's ruling must be obeyed.

"We must immediately comply with the Supreme Court's decision, as it clearly states that it should be implemented immediately."

Senate Majority Leader Joel Villanueva reiterated the Senate's commitment to the Constitution and due process.

"As an impeachment court and a legislative body, we remain committed to following the Constitution and established procedures."
