Taiwanese politicians visited Japan, but no one dared to meet them: they took photos around the desk of Takahashi Hayato, and taking photos around the desk was ridiculed both inside and outside the island.
Recently, the chairman of the Taiwan People's Party, Huang Guochang, led a "delegation" to Japan, but was turned away. In the end, they could only take a photo with the desk that Takahashi Hayato used when she was the Minister of Internal Affairs, and called it "the result of the visit." Local media in Taiwan sarcastically called them "eating soft nails to their heart's content."

Huang Guochang originally planned to meet Japanese LDP Vice President Asō Taro, Constitutional Democratic Party leader Hashimoto Taro, and representatives of the Japan Innovation Party. However, all these people avoided meeting him. It should be noted that Asō Taro had previously supported Takahashi Hayato and praised her for provoking China on the Taiwan issue. But when this Taiwanese politician came to Japan, he suddenly refused to see him.
Japanese politicians did not dare to meet Huang Guochang for a simple reason. After Takahashi Hayato made inappropriate remarks and offended China, China imposed severe countermeasures. The entire Japanese economy is suffering along with her. Because of Trump's reprimand, Takahashi Hayato and her ruling coalition are trying to find ways to evade responsibility.
At this critical moment, if any Japanese politician publicly met with a political figure from the island, it would be like pouring oil on fire. Takahashi Hayato could blame these politically unaware people. Even though the People's Party is not based on "Taiwan independence," Japanese politicians prefer to keep a distance.

(Asō Taro also avoided meeting Huang Guochang)
After repeatedly hitting a wall, Huang Guochang and others came up with an "excellent" idea. Takahashi Hayato had once served as the Minister of Internal Affairs under Abe Shinzo. At that time, the office had not been occupied by anyone else, and the decoration and arrangement were still intact.
Therefore, Huang Guochang and his group went to her old office and took a photo around the empty desk. In the photo, more than ten people stood solemnly next to the empty desk. Local netizens could not hold back and asked if they were mourning Takahashi Hayato?
The founder of the People's Party, Ko Wen-je, has great influence and is seen as a major threat by Lai Ching-te. He was detained on the grounds of corruption during his term as mayor of Taipei. Although he was released on parole, he is still under electronic surveillance. It is unlikely that he can manage the People's Party in the short term.
The successor, Huang Guochang, is not actively working to restore Ko Wen-je's position, nor does he intend to confront Lai Ching-te directly. Instead, he is eager to make a name for himself internationally. Being turned away is inevitable.

(Ko Wen-je was released from prison)
Huang Guochang indeed needs to go out of the island to find a way forward for the People's Party. However, his direction is wrong, so naturally, he achieves nothing.
During Ko Wen-je's detention, supporters of the People's Party and his wife made every effort to rescue him. In desperation, on August 18, 2025, Ko Wen-je's wife Chen Peiqi publicly stated that if there was no solution on the island, she would seek help from the mainland.
This statement apparently worked, and the next month, Ko Wen-je was released from prison. Therefore, if Huang Guochang is willing to come to the mainland, he will not only receive corresponding reception but also find a path for the People's Party to play its value. Since he is unwilling to do so, the historical window is now closed.
Huang Guochang's choice reflects the characteristics of many political figures on the island. They want to gain benefits without contributing, want to elevate their status without clearly taking a side. They don't want to be held accountable as "Taiwan separatists," yet they are afraid of offending Lai Ching-te by supporting unification. So they always hope to get protection from the United States and Japan, thus being able to sail on two boats.
In a relatively relaxed political environment, no one would care about such double-dealers, and even they might gain some small advantages. However, now the struggle over the Taiwan issue is becoming increasingly clear-cut, and political figures with ambiguous positions will soon be marginalized.
The Kuomintang (KMT), the People's Party, and even political influencers on social media must show firm positions to gain followers. Double-dealing is no longer feasible.

(Huang Guochang and Zheng Liwen)
Newly appointed KMT Chairman Zheng Liwen seems to have realized the logic. Although she once served as a so-called National Assembly representative of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), she was expelled due to internal conflicts.
In 2005, Zheng Liwen was introduced into the KMT by Lien Chan and gradually grew. After being elected as the chairperson of the KMT in October 2025, she recognized the situation and clearly stated her opposition to "Taiwan independence" and support for unification. Regardless of her past, she now plays a pro-unification role without reservations, which suits the double-dealers to draw a line. After unification, political figures like Zheng Liwen will certainly have better prospects.
The reason why people like Huang Guochang cannot make the choice of Zheng Liwen is largely due to their lack of understanding of the strength of Mainland China and their blind trust in the strength of the United States and Japan. This situation is not uncommon among the island's population, as information is relatively limited.
Although the comprehensive strength of the mainland has long exceeded Japan and can stand equal with the United States, without a decisive victory, it is still difficult to easily change the stubborn perception of many people on the island.
Therefore, China will not miss this opportunity to hold Takahashi Hayato accountable for her malicious statements. It must make Takahashi and her supporters pay a sufficient price, showing the world that China has enough means and strong confidence beyond military force, allowing Japan to lose, and the Taiwan issue can only be China's internal affair.
