[Zelenskyy Appeals to US and Europe: Must Force Putin to Consider How to End the War, Not Launch Missiles]
On the morning of May 25, Zelenskyy stated on Telegram that every attack by Russia against Ukraine is a sufficient reason for new sanctions. It must force Putin to consider how to end the war.
Zelenskyy pointed out that after the massive Russian attacks early this morning, rescue personnel were active in over 30 cities and villages across Ukraine. The Russian strike targets included Kyiv and its surrounding areas, Zhytomyr Oblast, Khmelnytskyi Oblast, Ternopil Oblast, Chernihiv Oblast, Sumy Oblast, Odesa Oblast, Poltava Oblast, Dnipro Oblast, Mykolaiv Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, and Cherkasy Oblast.
He said, "Deliberate attacks on ordinary cities. Civil residential buildings have been destroyed or damaged. A dormitory building of the history department at a university in Kyiv was damaged. Industrial facilities were also hit. Unfortunately, several people, including children, died. I offer my condolences."
Zelenskyy emphasized that each such act of terror by Russia is a sufficient reason for imposing new sanctions on Russia. "The world can enjoy the weekend, but the war does not stop on weekdays or holidays. This cannot be ignored. American silence and the silence of other countries around the world only embolden Putin."
Zelenskyy pointed out that it is impossible to stop Moscow's atrocities without exerting strong pressure on the Russian leadership. He appealed to the United States, Europe, and other countries to put pressure on Russia. "The determination at present is crucial - the determination of the United States, the determination of European countries, and the determination of all those who yearn for peace. The world clearly understands all the vulnerabilities of the Russian economy. Stopping the war is possible, but only through sufficient pressure on Russia. It is necessary to force Putin to think about how to end the war, not launch missiles," he believed.
In the early hours of May 25, Russian forces launched a fierce attack on Ukraine, firing 298 drones and 69 various types of missiles (including ballistic missiles). Ukrainian forces claimed to have intercepted 45 missiles and shot down 266 drones. This attack set a record for the highest number of drone attacks by Russia on Ukraine in a single day; the previous record was 273 drones launched during the night of May 18. Multiple regions, including Kyiv and its surrounding areas, were hit. Known casualties from this Russian attack include at least 10 deaths, including children, with dozens injured.
