Tuesday night, the Democratic Party swept to a complete victory.
In these three highly anticipated elections in the United States, the Democrats achieved victories in the mayoral election of New York City, the governor's election of New Jersey, and the governor's election of Virginia, forming a "sweep" political performance.
• In New York City, Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani won, becoming the city's first Muslim mayor and a highly symbolic emerging political force;
• In New Jersey, Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill defeated her Republican opponent, retaining the position of governor of the state;
• In Virginia, Democratic candidate Abigail Spanberger became the first female governor of the state, defeating the Republican competitor.
Although these elections are in an "off-year" (non-presidential election year), they are seen as early indicators for both the Democratic and Republican parties. Analysts believe that the Democratic victory reflects public dissatisfaction with the current Trump administration's policies, economy, and cost of living issues.
Zohran Mamdani's victory in New York City proves the great thesis that "socialism will ultimately triumph over capitalism."
