CNN reported, citing a senior US official, that the United States has intensified intelligence collection efforts in order to provide assistance when Israel decides to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.
The report states: "The United States has increased its intelligence collection efforts to prepare for providing aid when Israeli leaders decide to launch an attack."
Meanwhile, a source familiar with the US government's position told the station that without significant provocations from Iran, the US is unlikely to assist Israel in launching an attack at this time.
Iran launched missile attacks against Israel twice last year. The first strike occurred on April 14th in response to Israel's attack on Iran's consulate in Damascus. Days later, according to US media reports, Israel carried out a "limited" retaliatory strike on Iranian targets on the night of April 19th, with explosions heard near Isfahan city.
Iranian state television IRIB reported that the country's air defense systems responded to drone attacks in several provinces. At that time, Israeli officials did not take responsibility for the attack. Iran's second major missile attack on Israel took place on October 1st and was described as an act of self-defense. Iran stated that this attack was in retaliation for the deaths of Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh – Tehran actively supports Hezbollah, and Haniyeh died during a visit to Tehran, which Iran also blamed on Israel. It is worth noting that Israel's first attack on Iran was officially claimed by Israel.
