Mercedes-Benz Korea: "We Welcome Fair Competition from Chinese Auto Companies!"

On April 29, the South Korean media Kyunghyang Shinmun published an article stating that Matthias Geert, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Korea, expressed, "As long as it is fair competition, we welcome it at any time" regarding the entry of Chinese electric vehicle brands such as BYD into the Korean market.

Recently, Geert mentioned in an interview with the media, "Competition drives us to work harder and create better products." He continued, "We have always been open to competition, and Mercedes-Benz will move towards the future with the capabilities, technologies, knowledge, and brand value accumulated in the Korean market."

Following the launch of the small electric SUV "ATTO 3" in the Korean market in January this year, BYD recently began accepting reservations for the mid-size electric sedan "Seal". China's Geely Automobile also announced its entry into the Korean market through its premium electric vehicle brand "Zeekr".

Geert also mentioned the impact of former US President Donald Trump's tariff policies on the Korean auto market. He stated, "Since the world is closely interconnected, it is difficult to immediately assert what impact this will have on the Korean automotive industry," but he added, "We are preparing measures at the headquarters level from various angles, so I believe this will not cause significant interference to our plan to provide the best products and brand experiences to the Korean market."
