US Media: Iran's Ambassador to China Proposes "China Could Serve as Guarantor for Any Iran-US Agreement"

On May 10 local time, the website of CNN reported: Iran's ambassador to Beijing stated on a social media post on Sunday that China could serve as a guarantor for any potential agreement between Iran and the United States.

"Any potential agreement must necessarily be accompanied by guarantees from the great powers and raised in the United Nations Security Council as well," Ambassador Abdolreza Rahman Fazli wrote on X (in the original text: “Any potential agreement must necessarily be accompanied by guarantees from the great powers and raised in the United Nations Security Council as well,” Ambassador Abdolreza Rahman Fazli wrote on X).

The report noted that Fazli added, "China and Russia are two major influential powers; given China's position in Iran and other countries in the Persian Gulf region, Beijing could serve as a guarantor for any such agreement." Both Russia and China are permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The report added that this is not the first time an official has suggested China might act as a guarantor for a peace agreement. In early April, prior to the U.S.-Iran talks in Islamabad, Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited China. At the time, official sources in Pakistan told CNN that Dar might discuss the issue of China serving as a guarantor during his stay in Beijing.

In April, China's Foreign Ministry told CNN that China "supports Pakistan’s and other countries’ mediation efforts" and is willing to "maintain communication and coordination with all parties, continuing to play a constructive role in pursuing peace."

The original headline of the report is《China could guarantee any agreement with US, Iranian ambassador to Beijing says》(Iranian Ambassador to Beijing Says China Could Guarantee Any Agreement with the US).
