Gao Shi denies allegations of her campaign team defaming other candidates

On May 8, Gao Shi denied reports that her campaign team had posted videos on social media during the Liberal Democratic Party presidential election and the House of Representatives election, allegedly defaming other candidates.

Shimoda Chieko, a member of the Constitutional Democratic Party, stated: "We seriously doubt Gao Shi's team was involved. According to some media reports, videos seemingly produced by Gao Shi's campaign targeted other candidates in the presidential race and opposition candidates in the House of Representatives election, which were then widely disseminated on social media. If true, this would be a serious issue that could render the election results illegitimate and undermine the foundations of democracy."

Gao Shi's office and her campaign team sent numerous defamatory videos targeting other candidates via social media (SNS) during last year’s LDP presidential election and this year’s House of Representatives election, and it has been confirmed these were sent through accounts operated by Gao Shi’s office.
