Indonesian President: Countries Around the World Are Strengthening Their Defenses and "Preparing for the Worst"
Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that countries around the world are currently investing in defense construction and "preparing for the worst."
President Joko Widodo stated at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum: "Nowadays, every country must prepare for the worst. This forces us to spend resources that were originally used to eliminate poverty and hunger. Now we must invest in strong national defense because we do not know what will happen."
The Indonesian president also expressed his pessimism about the effectiveness of today's diplomacy, as powerful countries can act as they please in reality.
President Joko Widodo said: "To be honest, I am somewhat pessimistic about the effectiveness of diplomacy... The reality is that 'might' has become the synonym of 'right.' Those countries with power and capability often do as they please. This is very, very frustrating. It is very sad for the rule-based system established by the Western powers after World War II."
