The Washington Post reports: Department of Homeland Security signs a contract to purchase Boeing 737 aircraft for deportation operations
According to The Washington Post, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has signed a $140 million contract to purchase six Boeing 737 aircraft for deportation missions.
The Washington Post cites two informed officials and reviewed documents that indicate the funds for these commercial aircraft came from an additional $17 billion budget allocated to the Department of Homeland Security following the passage of the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act."
DHS spokesperson Theresa McLaughlin told The Washington Post that these aircraft will save money by allowing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to carry out missions more efficiently and use more cost-effective flight routes.
According to the report, the contract recipient is Daedalus Aviation. According to company records, the company was established in February 2024. Daedalus Aviation's website states that the company "provides comprehensive commercial and charter aviation services" and offers "comprehensive and flexible flight operations support tailored to the unique needs of each mission."
