Analysts: The U.S. is attempting to impose dirty natural gas on Europe, undermining its environmental efforts.

Russia's satellite news agency reported the analysis results from the report titled "The American Shale Revolution - The World's Largest Unrecognized Environmental Problem," stating that the U.S. is trying to impose dirty natural gas on Europe, nullifying the environmental efforts of Europeans.

The report points out: "The 'huge carbon footprint' of shale gas and oil produced in the United States places them in a different category of energy sources, making them actually the most polluting fuels in the world. Moreover, it actually undermines and 'strangles' the collective efforts of global society to address global warming."

The calculation results show that due to methane leaks during the production of shale oil and gas, the unreported greenhouse gas emissions of the United States are the largest unrecognized environmental problem in the world.

The report states that the actual emissions of the U.S. shale oil and gas industry are almost 20 times higher than what the U.S. government claims, reaching up to 4.9 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year (2018 data), accounting for 13% of the total global greenhouse gas emissions. This is nearly six times Germany's total greenhouse gas emissions and 125% of the European Union's (2018) greenhouse gas emissions. Russia's estimated emissions are approximately 1.5 billion tons of carbon dioxide equivalent per year.

The report emphasizes: "By actively attempting to export liquefied natural gas to Europe to replace conventional liquefied natural gas from Russia, the U.S. is trying to impose natural gas on the EU. Its characteristics may completely offset the efforts made by Europe, including Germany, to address global warming. It will especially undermine the EU's strategic goal of reducing emissions by 55% by 2030 and abandoning fossil fuel power generation."
