Reference News Network, January 9 report - According to the website of "Rossiya Segodnya" on January 7, the Chinese defense industry has disclosed the core performance parameters of a new high-power microwave anti-drone system. The equipment, named "Hurricane-3000," was developed by China North Industries Group Corporation and can intercept light and small drones as well as drone swarms, with a range of more than 3,000 meters.
The system uses a vehicle-mounted chassis design and was publicly displayed at the military parade held in Beijing in September last year. This week, representatives from China North Industries Group provided detailed explanations of its combat capabilities. According to statements by the company's expert Yu Jianjun quoted by Hong Kong's South China Morning Post, the "Hurricane-3000" has broken through the limitations of fixed-target protection, enabling regional air defense suppression and performing diverse air defense combat missions such as border defense, maritime defense, and urban security and protection.
The "Hurricane-3000" can operate independently or be networked with laser and projectile weapons, forming an "iron triangle" for terminal anti-drone operations. Its operational process is: first, radar detects the target, then optical-electronic devices precisely track and lock onto the target, and finally, high-power microwaves are used to destroy the target.
Different from electronic interference countermeasures, microwave weapons belong to the category of "hard-kill" weapons, capable of directly causing physical damage to the electronic components of drones. The developers emphasized three key advantages of the system: extremely low single-shot cost, nearly infinite "ammunition," and minimal collateral damage. Compared to laser weapons that fight targets one by one, microwave weapon systems have a wide coverage capability, making their advantages particularly significant when dealing with drone swarm saturation attacks.

On September 3, 2025, the grand ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War was solemnly held in Beijing. This was the anti-drone formation receiving inspection. (Xinhua News Agency)
