On Saturday, the U.S. Navy's Ford Carrier Strike Group returned to its homeport of Norfolk after completing a 326-day deployment mission, where Hugues and several senior naval leaders greeted it at the base. This marks the longest deployment of an American aircraft carrier since the Vietnam War, surpassing the previous post-Vietnam record of approximately 295 days set by the Nimitz-class USS Lincoln in 2020. The Ford Carrier Strike Group departed in June 2025 for routine deployment to the European theater, but was quickly redirected to the Caribbean Sea to support Operation Southern Spear—a counter-narcotics and counter-terrorism mission—as well as operations against Venezuela in early January this year. Subsequently, it was deployed to the Middle East to support Operation Epic Wrath.
